Our Story

We hold doctors in the highest regard, while also acknowledging that they are human too.

Since the inception of digital health, the SelectDr® leadership team has spent our careers empowering consumers with the information they need to make better health decisions. When we turned our attention to employee benefits, we saw an opportunity to rethink doctor choice. That work reinforced a realization years in the making: one of the most important things anyone can do for their health is choose the right doctor. Get it right, and you get the best care from the outset.

Each doctor has conditions or procedures in which they excel based on training, experience, and interests. Choosing the right doctor means matching medical skills and strengths with the needs of each consumer’s specific medical situation. The problem today is that most consumers choose doctors based on word of mouth or anonymous online reviews, both of which are limited to subjective information from other consumers’ perspectives.

Consumers are great assessors of whether a doctor provides good service. However, it’s nearly impossible for them to know if the doctor provided good medical care compared to their peers in a specific scenario.

All a consumer can know is whether the care met the expectations set by the doctor. There’s no way to know whether those were the right expectations to begin with. For example, if the doctor tells you that you will recover from surgery in 3 weeks and you recover in 3 weeks, you are happy with the care you received. However, you might not know that there was a non-surgical option available that would have had a 2-week recovery.
